Scott's Wedding

Hey everyone,

I know my promises about blogging wasn’t well kept but I have a great blog today with a video! I photographed my first wedding of the season a couple weekends ago and it was a true honor to photograph a purple heart respecting. It was a great pleasure to be apart of Brittany and Thomas wedding. They are an awesome couple with a great story and they most certainly have a great future. I put together a little video for them so check it out! I also posted some photos we took by the Royals Royce. I hope you enjoy.

Whats up

Hey everyone,

I know... it has been way to long and I promise it won’t take months for me to blog again. I just wanted to catch everyone up to speed on what I’ve been doing.

I had the two shows and they went great. I had tremendous support from my friends and family. I also ended up taking “Best in Show” at the AI Graduation show for the photography department.

I got my bachelor's degree in photography from The Art Institutes International Minnesota. I didn’t get a "D+" (I just love that movie) but I was so happy that I almost hugged a stranger that day!

So, for the last two months or so I have been catching up with friends and family, enjoying watching my favorite NFL team (the Green Bay Packers) win the Super Bowl, and loving having homework-less Sunday evenings.

Also, the Campus Club, my current employer, published their Centennial Celebration cookbook, which I did all the food photography for. Let me know if anyone wants a copy they’re going for $14.95! There are a lot of great recipes in here that I have never made, however, I have tried them all.

Other than that, I have been working at the Campus Club, wrote some wedding agreements and still continue working as an intern with the Minnesota Timberwolves...(Which I just realized that I never blogged about this subject).

I got hooked up with the internship through my teacher Becky Olstad (www.beckyolstad.com). She introduced me to David Sherman(www.davidshermanphoto.com), the head photographer for the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was looking for an intern, so we met and he hired me on. It has been a great learning experience.

I learn everything from shooting tips, learning how to operate remote cameras, editing, and the whole nine yards when it comes to being a professional sports photographer. I have learned a lot from the 15-year-old vet… That’s right, he has been the T-wolves photographer for 15 years and was at the All-Star weekend in LA photographing for the NBA!

I forgot to mention I also just bought a Canon 1D Mark 3 and a couple weeks ago David even let me shoot my first full NBA game. He often has me shoot specific assignments for him but my main responsibility is to do his photo uploading to the NBA during the games. Before and after games I help with setting up his remote cameras. I am getting more shooting assignments now that I have a camera! I got to shoot the last game against the 76ers. Well... my assignment that night was to protect the floor camera but he let me shoot while I was sitting there and his head assistant Jordan Johnson (www.jordanjohnsonphoto.com) allowed me to use his new Canon 70-200. Pretty sweet experiences, here are some photos!

Drive For Show

Wow! Tonight is the opening to Spaces! Spaces is a photography show put on by six graduating photographers from the Art Institutes of International Minnesota which I happen to be one of them. For more info check out my Last Blog post!

Alright last night my roommate Andrew Hendricks and I sat down put together a little video for the show! One of the images I will have on display tonight, called "Drive for Show" I have shown to a couple of professionals, friends and complete strangers. I have received uninspected responses from them, but I guess it is a good one. The most common responses were “how did you do that?” I guess I should have expected that considering how the final image turned out. Well this video was inspired from that and from one of my teachers who suggested that it would be a cool idea because when scanning through the original images it almost looked like a video recording. This Video will be on display tonight along with a 20x24 inch print of the Final image!

Here is a quick rundown. This is a sequence photograph of a series of 12 images taken right after one another, in studio (A.K.A a large room at my work, they allowed me to shoot in) and I had a wonderful and beautiful model named Erin. We shot this about a month back. Well Once I shot the images I took the images in Photoshop selected Erin out of the original images and then layered those selections on top of each other and add some blur to give it a nice effect. This is what we photographers call a composite image. It is where we take several parts of different images and blend them together in Photoshop to make one image. Since it was in studio and wintertime in Minnesota, I got the grass from a photograph I took at a St. Paul Saints baseball game two years ago. We made this video to show how the sequence and layering of this particular photography and the complexity to create the final image, so check it out!

A quick thank you to Andrew Hendricks for his help in putting this video together, check his work out at (www.brand-stand.com). Also Thank you Campus Club my current employer for letting me use their space. And of course a great thanks to Erin for being a huge help! I hope to see everyone tonight at show! A lot of good photographers so come check it out!

Cook Book part 2

All right… here are some photos from the cookbook… but first I want to explain a little bit about it. I have been working at a catering facility called the Campus Club for the last three years. I started as a server/bar tender and am now working in their marketing department. This year our company wanted to produce a cookbook with some of the recipes from our head chef Beth and the Sous Chef Jorge I have been very fortunate because I have been eating their delicious meals for the last 3 years… A big perk of the job! They do an awesome job and asked me to take photos for this cookbook… I was really excited! I researched some info on food photography because I haven’t shot a tremendous amount of food but it was a fun learning experience and I can’t wait to see the finished product. Here are some of the photos I got on the second day of shooting. Not all of them you will have to buy the book to see. It should be out some time in January.

Beth’s husband and her son Leo stopped by

Get this… We had to re-plan our second day of shooting because of a time confliction. I forgot to check if we had an available room to set up a studio that day. Turned out that all 7 possible rooms I could shoot in was unavailable and this was the only one that worked.

The closet where we keep our glasswear. Good thing food is a small subject matter!

All right this was pretty sweet. The sciences department of the U of M dropped off some liquid nitrogen. Beth and George made some ice cream with the help of our bar manger. These might be my favorite shots of the whole day and plus it was pretty good ice cream!

Campus Club Cook Book post 1

Well like I said last week, I am shooting my first cookbook for my current employer, the Campus Club. I wanted to show a couple photos today because we will be shooting the rest of the book today. I picked up the gear at 7:30AM and I will be shooting by 8:30AM until we are done! If you like the food photos check back in a week or so because the ones I shoot today should be posted as well as more info on the book. For now check out the ones we shot last week!

Anyone hungry?
